Learning community engagement:Technical literacy

Image
Learning community engagement: Technical literacy Technological literacy plays a crucial role in today's world. Most of the things that we do daily are technology based. For instance, electronic payments, iPads, watches, computers, and more extensive and more sophisticated items such as rockets. Therefore the is a need to learn responsibly how all these tools can benefit us and how reliable they are.  "In short, technology is everything that humans do or make to change the natural environment to suit their own purposes. Or, in the words of Standards for Technological Literacy: Content for the Study of Technology, technology is “the innovation, change, or modification of the natural environment to satisfy perceived human wants and needs” (ITEA, 2000, p. 242)" (Garmire, E., & Pearson, G. (2006). Credits: NASA How to build and refine technological literacy I will... continue using the ISTE Standards for Educators ensure the use of credible sources to build stronger know

Learning community engagement - Wikipedia Project

Learning community engagement:  Wikipedia Project Critiquing Articles: I was surprised to find out about all the gears behind Wikipedia. One of the main eye-openers was the article evaluation. The opportunity to verify the accuracy, quality, sources, tone, and much more allowed me to understand and be more analytical when making my own contributions. My desire to add more information was also intended to benefit other learners. As my topic, "Translanguaging," is not well-known, I wanted to ensure that the sources and supporting articles were reliable to enhance the article.  Summarizing my contributions: Evaluation of the main article of Tranlsnaguaging was a critical tool to start my work. Then, I was able to observe what were the elements that were missing. Then, I added more sources to explain the meaning of native language and collaborative translation. I also added information to explain where this technique could benefit Educators in a classroom. I also corrected some

Learning community engagement: Awakening the power of holistic education

Learning community engagement:  Awakening the power of holistic education Resource # 1: Awakening the Power of Holistic Education One main idea that was very helpful  and made me reconsider my thinking was from the TED talk  video . Ariana Oluwole made a very important clarification about the type of education children should receive to discover their talents and purpose.  "Believing in the power that it has to change communities and to support nation building. I went on with that belief, searching for purpose until I realized later on in life that indeed Holistic Education is a philosophy that it's based on the fact that every human should discover their purpose and meaning in life. And once they find that purpose and meaning, they can now share that with their communities."  (Ariana Oluwole, 2022) "How can we lead with influence?" This is a phenomenal question that I am planning to reflect on every morning. Educators should incorporate Holistic Education not

Vision Statement #3

Image
Vision Statement #3 Learning with the internet must be aligned to build a more responsible community. O ne enhancement to my vision statement is the connection to  a  professional learning network. This is critical to designing, teaching, and implementing research-based strategies. L earners need responsive and enhancing materials to connect their needs and cultural backgrounds.  T he Internet and/or technology tools can be used to support digital technological literacy in many ways. For example,    educators can use technology to build global connections to implement multicultural teaching strategies and resources to make all students visible in the classroom.    Also, e ducational technology standards within dual immersion schools are critical. Students can learn to implement strategies to find reliable information and be more responsible digital citizens, including the bicultural and bilingual components. Also, educators can mindfully create digital-age learning experiences. Unders

Learning community engagement: Independent inquiry

Learning community engagement: Independent inquiry 1.  Cultural heritage  :  ( I have selected this article as a part of my Wikipedia Project.) Cultural elements are a fundamental part of every person's life. These can not only make us feel complete but respected. Therefore, cultural elements inherited from past generations must be included and valued. For example, language is a part of the intangible cultural heritage we should preserve. Educators must get to know students' backgrounds to be more inclusive and incorporate parts of their cultural heritage. For instance, in a dual language setting, students must utilize their first language to help them make sense of their new language instead of eliminating the first to learn the second.  Understanding the importance of cultural heritage in society is critical to valuing who we are today. From places to culture (visible to invisible cultural heritage), it is fundamental to prioritize the work that other ancestors did to surviv
